When the conversation with a client or customer turns to golf this winter, and it's your turn to tell a story, share something "less than stellar" about your golf game. I find that the story I tell on myself is very effective in terms of interest, humor and empathy. Will Rogers said, "Everything is funny as long as it's happening to someone else."
Golf-Her's Rules
Tip
Do you make a habit of marking your golf ball? The Rules of Golf strongly suggest that you do. Make a mark that's easily identifiable for anyone who sees it. Rule 12-2 gives us the opportunity to lift our ball for the purpose of identification anywhere on the course EXCEPT in a hazard. However, we must adhere to this procedure or there is a 1-stroke penalty: 1) announce to your fellow-competitors your intention to lift & identify your ball, 2) mark the ball, and 3) give your fellow-competitors the opportunity to observe your actions. You may NOT clean your ball except to the extent necessary for identification.
Golf-Her's Personal Tip
Here's a great idea* to strengthen your forearms and wrists even as the snow flies. Fill a shoebox with raw rice. Bury your hand in the rice and do circular motions to strengthen your wrist. Repeat both clockwise and counterclockwise. For your forearms, start with your fingers spread, then squeeze your fingers together as if clenching a rubber ball; repeat several times. Then do the opposite. Start with your fingers together and thrust them outwards. You'll be surprised at how hard this simple exercise is!
